Ilene E. Ferry (Diepenbrock)

Ilene E. [Ferry] Diepenbrock, of Davis/Lake Summerset, Ill., died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, in her home.

Mrs. Diepenbrock died of metastasizing lung cancer. She stopped smoking in 1988. She wanted all to know to never start smoking or to quit NOW!

Ilene Diepenbrock, daughter of Guy Ferry and Helen nee DePover Ferry, was born Nov. 10, 1944. Ilene went to Roosevelt Elementary, Calvin Coolidge Junior High and Moline High School, all schools in Moline. She then attended Gale Institute, Minneapolis, Minn.

While working in the Quad-Cities, she was affiliated with Austin-Detaye Travel with DePorter-Butterworth. She managed locations in Moline and Rock Island. Mrs. Diepenbrock worked for United Airlines in Moline, Denver, Colorado and Chicago, retiring in 1997 after 31 years of service.

In 1972, she married Robert Diepenbrock and obtained three potty trained children. Later, Bob and Ilene added two, un-potty trained children of their own.

Ilene is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Diepenbrock; her children, Laurie Kelley and Robert (Mary), David (Shirley), Guy (Barbara) and Erik Diepenbrock; her 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her sister, Carol Peters; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Guy Ferry; sister, Sallye Causemaker; and nephew, Robert Peters.

A memorial ceremony will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded. McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 Main St., Durand, Ill., assisted the family. Any donations may be sent to your favorite charity.

It was a very sad moment to learn Ilene had  passed away Sunday evening.  I send Bob and his whole family my sympathy.

Earl and I are so sorry to see that Ilene has passed away. We renewed our friendship at the 50th class reunion. She was always so friendly. Good memories of our visit.  Our condolences to her family.

So very sorry to hear this sad news. Ilene was such a vibrant and caring person. And what a great sense of humor! At our 50th reunion we spent time together in the Short Hills ladies room; reminising about old times with stories of all the fun we had in high school. She will be missed by all of us who knew her. My sincere sympthany to her husband and family. Rest in peace dear Ilene, for you are now pain free.

I am so sorry to hear about Ilene.  I have such fond memories of her in high school and the fun slumber parties at her home.  She was so very kind and fun to be around.  She will be missed by all that knew her.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.  God Bless.  Mary Jane
