Dorothea Hyink (Hill)

Dorothea Hyink-Hill of Edina, Minn., formerly of Moline, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009.

A private family graveside service will be held, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline.

Dorothea M. Swanson was born in Moline on May 25, 1911, to Franz and Emma Mueller Swanson. On Aug. 20, 1935, in Moline, she married Clifton F. Hyink, who preceded her in death in 1969 after 34 years of marriage. She later married Colonel John B. Hill who also preceded her in death.

Dorothea was a graduate of Moline High School, and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and for many years, taught at Moline High School in the Business Department. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Moline, Katherine Butterworth Circle of Kings Daughters, and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She enjoyed travel, bridge, and her many friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Nick) Rogers, Edina; a son, Cliff (Sherrill) Hyink, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Rogers, New York, N.Y.; three grandsons, Jeff Hyink, Hanford, Calif., Chad Hyink, Quincy, Calif., and Derek (Stacy) Rogers, Edina; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Kuschmann.
