Gary L. Helms, 68, of Moline, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at Trinity Moline.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, is handling arrangements for the family.

Gary L. Helms was born in Moline on Aug. 17, 1943, to Wallace Jr. and Lena Streit Helms.

He retired from the former Montgomery Elevator (now Kone) after 35 years of service. Gary was an avid golfer and bowler, and enjoyed his annual fishing trip with his family.

Survivors include his mother, Lena Helms, Moline; son, Matthew Helms, and granddaughter, Jenna Helms, both of Iowa City; brother, Larry (Donetta) Helms, Ophiem; sister, Opal Loveall, East Moline; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Sally.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Helms.
