Dr. James R. Althaus, 44, of 9700 Base Line Road, Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Moline, died Friday at home.  Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.  Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline.  Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Association.

Dr. Althaus was born Jan. 2, 1944, in Moline.  He graduated from Moline High School and Iowa State University, Ames.  He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, and was a post-doctorial fellow at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.  He was a research chemist for several years, and had most recently been self-employed in the sub-contracting business in Little Rock.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Miriam Althaus, Moline, and a brother, Dr. David P., Phoenix, Ariz.
